The Simpsons: 10 Best Episodes From Season 30 Onwards
9. Thanksgiving of Horror
Season 31, Episode 8
The fresh take on the Treehouse format, opens with a classic Marge warning, the first since season five. She reasons that the current state of the world warrants “the terror spreading into Thanksgiving”.
A-Gobble-Ypto is a retelling of Maggie’s birth, or rather hatching. Half of Springfield are cast as pilgrim hunters, the others, including the Simpson family, as wild turkeys. The dialogue alternates between Ye Olde English and gobbling, leaving the animators to carry the story. They excel and have fun with the liberal use of bloody violence.
The Fourth Thursday After Tomorrow parodies Black Mirror. Like the show, it crams complex sci-fi technology and plot into a limited space. The main basis for the parody is the episode “White Christmas” as Marge and her AI virtual assistant face off. However, Marge’s punishment and AI Marge’s reward, are nods to Nosedive and San Junipero respectively. It feels created by genuine fans rather than just to satisfy a trend.
The Last Thanksgiving sees Bart and Lisa battle against mutant
cranberry sauce on-board a colony spaceship. It’s quirky but doesn’t quite land
like the previous two tales of terror.
