U2, the Rock/alternative rock/post-punk Irish band, appear in the Simpsons in the 1998 episode 'Trash of the Titans'.

After becoming enraged at what he deems to be a poor refuse collection service, Homer decides to run for the role of Sanitation Commissioner and, hilariously, actually bags himself the job. U2 make their appearance while Homer begins campaigning for the role, even going as far as to interrupt the band's PopMart Tour concert to make a speech, but is dragged off stage and beaten up by U2's security.

The ambitious Sector 7-g employee eventually gets the job, however, replacing Ray Patterson in an electoral landslide after a bitter feud between the pair. But Homer's new job all proves way over his head as he is later denounced by Mayor Quimby when, after making a load of crazy promises, ends up spending the Sanitation Department's yearly budget of $4.6 million in only a month.
