"Holidays Of Future Passed" is largely agreed to be The Simpsons' last true masterpiece episode and possibly the closest we'll ever get to a true series finale.

Even the most cynical, jaded Simpsons fan would struggle to take issue with this episode, which fittingly enough was originally written as a potential series finale in case negotiations with the cast fell through for the next season.

Holidays Of Future Passed takes place 30 years in the future as Bart and Lisa struggle with parenthood themselves, all while Maggie is pregnant.

This episode expertly balances future-centric humour with genuinely sharp character development, which culminates in one of the Simpsons' few iconic scenes from the last 10 years - Bart and Lisa sharing a drink in their childhood treehouse while discussing the difficulties of parenting.

Truly, this is one of the very few newer Simpsons episodes which can sit comfortably among the series' peak-era output. Bravo.
