6. Homer Gets Raped
Homer Vs Dignity could well be lumped in with the show jumping the shark, although it’s a scandal of its own. While Homer pretends to be a dancing panda, a real panda drags Homer to his cave and rapes him off screen.
The rest of the episode is recycled tropes (Burns even literally repeats a joke about New Mexico he’d already told seven seasons earlier), but that pales in comparison to the fact the main character is raped. In a scene played for laughs. Who thought this was a good idea?!
The episode was critically panned and any possible discussion of its merits are clouded by ‘isn’t that the episode where Homer gets raped by a panda?’ anyway.
Despite this backlash, the show decided to have another Homer gets raped joke two years later, this time by Marge. Yep, that’s right.
In the Season 14 episode The Strong Arm Of The Ma, Marge takes steroids and becomes a bodybuilder. Homer is less attracted to this version of Marge, so she pins him to the bed and forces him as he protests for her to stop.
Just imagine if that ever would have made it to air if the situation had been reversed.
