The Simpsons: 10 Funniest Episodes Ever Made

2. You Only Move Twice (Episode 2, Season Eight)

Whilst it's far too situational to earn the title of best episode ever, You Only Move Twice comes very, very close to being the funniest episode in Simpsons history. Right from the start, audiences are bombarded with wacky jokes and clever sight gags, as the Simpsons are relocated to Cypress Creek after Homer is given a job by supervillain Hank Scorpio.

Absurd exchanges between Hank Scorpio and Homer - such as "Ever see a guy say goodbye to a shoe?" "Yes, once" - are brilliant in their sheer looniness, as though the writers decided to just throw caution to the wind for no other reason than: "Hey, it's funny!" This one really feels like the staff letting rip - and to endlessly inspired results.

You Only Move Twice also stands as one of the greatest Bond parodies ever, regardless of medium; the moment where Homer inadvertently gets 007 killed is unexpected and hilarious. Even the end credits are brilliant, with that amazing Goldfinger theme parody.

It's a true masterclass in comedy writing, bettered in laughs by just one other episode...
