The Simpsons: 10 Greatest Recurring Characters Introduced After Season One

4. Comic Book Guy

A fat sarcastic Star Trek fan? Comic Book Guy may not have been a hit with the ladies in Springfield, or with anyone but Agnes Skinner and one comic con goer who just wanted him to brush the crumbs from his beard, but he grew to be one of the more popular secondary characters with the fans.

As one of the town’s many characters that doesn’t go by his actual name, though it was revealed to be Jeff Albertson in ‘Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass’, Comic Book Guy has come a long way since his debut. His first appearance came in 'Three Men and a Comic Book', and since the early days of selling Radioactive Man #1 to Bart, Milhouse, and Martin, his store has become a mainstay of Springfield for many years, and has even been the main focus of multiple episodes.

Seeing him date Agnes Skinner, recover from a stroke, or battle with Jack Black’s new comic store are all well and good, but it is the little moments of sarcasm and insults that have made this character so popular. That and the worst. Catchphrase. Ever.

All this without mentioning his Treehouse of Horror stint as the Collector, arch enemy of Stretch Dude and Clobber Girl, and kidnapper and collector of celebrities. He was a standout in this segment, and made it one of the strongest ever.
