The Simpsons: 10 Greatest Recurring Characters Introduced After Season One

3. Troy McClure

We could sit here for hours on end and go over the different movies that Troy McClure appeared in and be happily entertained by just the names of these projects. ‘The President’s Neck Is Missing’, ‘Dial M For Murderousness’, and 'Today We Kill, Tomorrow We Die' are just a few out of the top drawer.

Whether starring in the hit Broadway musical, 'Stop The Planet of the Apes, I Want To Get Off!', or teaching Homer how to level his house, there isn’t an acting job Springfield’s own movie star wouldn’t take. Particularly when his strange obsession with fish became public knowledge.

Much of Troy’s time on The Simpsons was spent on infomercials, and of course he is most famous for his ‘you may remember me’ schtick that genuinely never got old, but he absolutely shone in A Fish Named Selma. He didn’t get the spotlight all that often, but when he did he made every second count. He even made the 138th Episode Spectacular watchable, which is more than any other clip show should be.

Like Lionel Hutz, Troy’s time in Springfield was cut tragically short by the death of Phil Hartman, but he is still one of the most popular characters ever to grace Springfield. Along with the likes of Krusty and Kent Brockman, he is arguably the greatest celebrity to come out of Springfield.
