The Simpsons: 10 Major Plot-Holes Everyone Ignores
2. Everyone's Ages
This entry isn’t about the fact that Bart Simpson has been ten years old since 1989. It’s part of the reality of cartoons that the characters don’t age, no matter how long the show has been running for. With The Simpsons referencing pop culture, it does stretch our suspension of disbelief, but then this is hardly a detail that no one has noticed.
It’s the internal reality of the show where the discrepancy in ages creates more of a plot hole.
Mr Burns, for example, has claimed to have been in his 80s, 90s, over 100, but also to have been born in Pangea and his four digit PIN number is apparently his age. He’s also apparently the second person ever to have gotten a Social Security number. But his mother is still alive and Abe is shown in some episodes to have been older than him. It’s a bit of a mess.
Hans Moleman too, has claimed to have been a variety of ages, but the apparently confirmed theory of a race of underground mole people could help explain this.
Elsewhere, Rod & Todd’s age (and the school they attend) has fluctuated, and the Octuplets are shown to have grown slightly, while everyone else has stayed the same age.
