The Simpsons: 10 Most Heartfelt Episodes

7. I Married Marge – Season 3, Episode 12

Mother Simpson
Fox

The second flashback episode in the show, I Married Marge tells the story of Homer and Marge’s marriage and the events leading up to Bart’s birth, whom they accidentally conceived after a passionate night inside a golf course castle.

This story is essential viewing for cementing Homer and Marge as the beating heart of the show. Marge stays completely committed to Homer, even after they get married in a seedy wedding chapel and Homer’s job does not provide them with enough funds for a new baby.

As with every impressive episode of the show, there is a terrific blend of comedy and authentic drama at play, with Homer actually choosing to leave Marge to find another job so he can send her and the baby money.

Even though we know how bad Homer’s new job at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant will be, we cannot help but feel just as optimistic when he manages to make it to Bart’s birth and we see the beginnings of the family we all know and love.

Full of pitch perfect sentiment and well timed comedy - a must see!
