After Homer consumes a poisonous fugu fish at a sushi restaurant,
he is informed he has less than 24 hours to lives and with this knowledge,
attempts to try everything on his bucket list before he dies.
This episode is deeply affecting with the grim reality of Homer’s apparent fate never leaving the spotlight and the time he takes to spend time with his family before the end is very moving.
The full impact of the situation is felt when Homer quietly bids each member of his family goodbye while they sleep and succumbs to his death by sitting in the living room and listening to Larry King read the Bible on tape. The sombre, dark tone is quite haunting during this sequence.
Although the episode features a hilarious ending, the emotional core of the story is what lingers in the mind long after the credits run.
