The Simpsons: 10 Worst Episodes Ever

3. D'Oh Canada

Simpsons Every Man’s Dream

Season 30 strikes again with this woefully handled, politically charged trip to Canada. Writers Tim Long and Miranda Thompson go out of their way to lampoon America via Lisa's sudden love of its northern neighbour. We get scenes of mounties, Justin Trudeau, rescue beavers and a heavy emphasis on Canada's free healthcare system.

Over the years, the show has become renowned for infusing hidden messages and subtle satire into its plot lines. Often one of the greatest traits of this never-ending series, the statements made in this episode are poorly handled, ultimately letting down the message they set out to make in the first place.

The episode became embroiled in controversy due to the musical portion where Homer spoofs upstate New York and uses the term 'newfie' (a slur for those from Newfoundland). On top of offending the victims of its mockery, the sing song bit is humourless and uninspired, making it a slog for everyone else too. One can understand why musician Bruce Moss made the call to refuse the producers' request to use one of his songs for this.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
