With Dustin Hoffman guest-starring in the episode as Lisa's temporary teacher Mr Bergstrom (though credited as Sam Etic - a play on the word 'Semitic'), the Simpsons crew couldn't resist sneaking in a reference to the classic scene from Hoffman's breakout film, The Graduate.
The famous 'Mrs Robinson, are you trying to seduce me?' scene is entirely replicated here, complete with identical risque camera angle and a variation on that very line.
Mrs Robinson's sexually-voracious mature teacher is also seamlessly replaced with The Simpsons' very own sexually-voracious mature teacher, Mrs Krabappel, in seducing Hoffman's character.
It might not be the wackiest twist on a famous film scene found in the show but it does cleverly play with the audience's knowledge of the guest star.
