The Simpsons: 5 Future-Themed Episodes Ranked

A look at every time the Simpson clan has flashed forward.

A glimpse into the future, Simpsons-style, comes every five years. With the exception of the most recent instalment, The Simpsons looks ahead to a possible future showing where the family has ended up roughly every half decade. Usually done through visions, each episode gives a different possible future for the Simpson clan, although there are some common themes between then - Bart being a loser, Milhouse still being the love interest for Lisa, Lisa being successful, and later in the series, Bart having a recurring future girlfriend (who later becomes his wife). Fans have seen Bart in a failing band, Lisa as President, a failed marriage, a cryogenically frozen grandpa, and grand-kids out of control. These episodes are not cannon: nothing that happens in them should be considered set in stone. Much like the Treehouse of Horror series, these are sheer entertainment, just done in a "what if" fashion. Love them or hate them, they always get fans talking, for better or for worse. One of these looks ahead was long considered one of the worst episodes ever, while another was planned as a possible series finale should the show not be renewed. Frankly, it's all a mixed bag, and a subsection of episodes that hasn't been examined all that much. With five of these episodes produced thus far, lets see which hit the mark - and which got its predictions all wrong. Here are all five Simpsons future-themed episodes ranked!
