The Simpsons: 8 Episodes We Never Got To See

2. Homer Vs. Dr Hibbert

The Simpsons has seemingly done it all. It's made fun of entire nations, religious communities, celebrities, actors, Hollywood, gangsters, addiction, musicians, capitalism, vegetarianism, superheroes, comic books and everything in-between.

But for all its clever assessments of American culture, it's never really tackled the theme of racism.

Back in season seven, writer Greg Daniels pitched an idea that would have seen Homer and Dr Hibbert - one of the show's only major Black characters - clash over the intricate issues of race and intolerance in Springfield.

Under the working title "Homer vs. Dr. Hibbert on the Issue of Race," the episode was worked and re-worked in hopes of fitting it into the season, but in the end it was dropped because "the topic was just too incendiary to be dealt with effectively."

Whilst it's a shame we never got to see the premise play out, the episode is still unquestionably one of the most interesting unproduced Simpsons on offer. Even if it probably wouldn't have been that funny...
