The Simpsons: 8 Reasons Why Season 8 Was The Show's Best

5. Musical Numbers

People don't typically watch The Simpsons for the songs, but that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't part of what makes it great. Season 30 is currently only four episodes in and it's managed to wedge four songs in there (with maybe one good one. Maybe), so fans looking back might view these songs even more fondly given how lazy modern ones feel by comparison.

Bart After Dark won the Emmy for Music and Lyrics that year, for the incredible 'We Put The Spring In Springfield', a chuckle-filled ode to the maison-derriere. The song is what all Simpsons songs should try to be; catchy, hilarious, and able to tell the story without wedging in random lines that don't fit.

Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious was nominated for the Music Direction Emmy too, and while the songs aren't quite as good as 'We Put The Spring In Springfield', the sheer amount makes it a force to be reckoned with. Shery Bobbins as the Simpsons' housekeeper rattles of all the memorable Mary Poppins classics with their own Simpsons twist.

Not to be overlooked either is Homer's weirdly wonderful rap as Poochie, the talking dog.
