The Simpsons: 8 Reasons Why Season 8 Was The Show's Best
6. Awesome Crossovers & Parodies
Parodies and send ups have always formed a core part of The Simpsons brand of comedy. What makes this season stand out is not just how many great ones are squeezed in, but how dedicated each one is. These aren’t five second throwaway references; these are episodes lovingly built around a theme.
Brother From Another Series is perhaps the best example, with Kelsey Grammer returning as Sideshow Bob and David Hyde Pierce playing his brother Cecil. But they don’t just wink towards Frasier, the wit-filled exchange over dinner could have easily been a script for the Crane brothers rather than the Terwilligers.
As well as that, we get The Springfield Files where Mulder & Scully bring their deadplan delivery to investigate an alien sighting. Turns out it’s just Mr Burns... kill it! Mulder actor David Duchovny had so much fun he suggested another crossover with The Simpsons in The X-Files universe, but sadly none appeared.
They even had a whole episode of spin-offs, with Chief Wiggum and Principal Skinner as detectives in New Orleans. Just like Carl when he goes over to Lenny’s, the show will stuff you till you don’t know what’s what.
