Kill Gill Volumes I & II wasn't just the show's first Gil-centric episode, it was also a Christmas episode, with Gil staying with the Simpson family over the holidays after once again being down on his luck. With Gil being the newest "classic" character on the show, it was a welcome change, though there were some missteps, such as the "who cares" cameo of figure skater Elvis Stojko. It does get quite a few things right however, like Gil refusing to take back the gift he had accidentally sold for Lisa (which gets him fired from his job at Costington's, necessitating his staying with the Simpson clan), Marge taking eleven months to grow a backbone and kick Gil out (only to find he's already gone), and Gil serving as a mall santa (just the concept works, given he's such a lovable loser). Again, not on part with the best Simpsons Christmas episodes, but a solid middle-of-the-pack effort.
