The Simpsons: Every Crossover Episode Ranked - From Worst To Best
1. The Critic
It stinks! Wait, no it doesn't!
To this day, The Simpsons' crossover with FOX's The Critic (which actually aired initially on ABC before switching networks) ranks as the very best crossover episode the show has had. While Jay Sherman has never become the iconic character The Critic's producers no doubt hoped he would be, his appearance in A Star Is Burns in season six of The Simpsons was just as classic as every other episode from the era. From his out-belching Homer to dissing MacGyver, everything about this episode was on point.
The plot (if you somehow haven't seen it) revolved around Springfield establishing a film festival, and Marge writing to Jay Sherman, noted film critic, to serve as a guest judge. He accepts, and winds up bunking with the family. Homer, meanwhile, guilts Marge into letting him on the judge's panel, and of course, hijinx ensure.
It's almost a crime that the character hasn't returned to the show since (with the exception of a few brief cameos), even with The Critic having been cancelled mid-90s. The Critic (which came back as a series of webisodes in the early 2000s, and had a successful DVD issued) was actually co-created by current Simpsons show-runner Al Jean, so the opportunity is there.
