Everybody needs the news, it's the only way to stay truly informed on the world's goings-on, and a charismatic lead anchor can help that. So, Springfield seems very lucky to have Kent Brockman as he's always there to fill them in, and fans are lucky to see him because he's always primed for hilarity.
One of the funniest things about this character is that he always presents himself in such a stern and focussed way yet is often delivering ridiculous lines. Seeing him try to take the town's news seriously is always amusing, as you can tell he wants to be taken seriously, but he struggles to.
This is particularly exemplified by his bursts of anger or annoyance, which take him to the next level as you can tell his ego is something he struggles to control. But with a look like that, who could?
