The Simpsons: Every Treehouse Of Horror Ranked Worst To Best
13. XV. The Ned Zone; Four Beheadings And A Funeral; In The Belly Of The Boss
As already established, The Simpsons Treehouse episodes usually soar when they're based on classical reference points, and The Ned Zone does well precisely because it's based on the excellent Dead Zone. Added kudos must also go to the opening sequence that sees the aliens (booo) serving a meal of The Simpsons family including an oven roasted Homer who keeps eating himself.
Seeing Ned wrestling with the weight of his religious fervour and the bigger need to not allow Homer to kill all of Springfield is a great play on the original movie, but it's undone slightly by an unfunny ending point featuring God and a frisbee for some reason.
The second sequence is very much a tale of two halves - the period set From Hell story is great fun and offers some delicious gags (like Monty Burns making coal out of babies), but the end is just dumb with Kang and Kodos appearing to accidentally lend a hand to catch the killer.
And finally In The Belly Of The Boss, an Inner Space/Fantastic Voyage parody that is a nice play on the gimmick, but again ends on a daft note when Homer grows to full size under Mr Burns' skin and does absolutely no damage. Perhaps seeking realism is silly here, but come on.
