The Simpsons: Every Treehouse Of Horror Ranked Worst To Best

14. XXIV. Oh The Places You'll D'Oh; Dead And Shoulders; Freaks No Geeks

The Simpsons Freaks No Geeks
Fox

This episode starts very strongly thanks to the guest opening sequence by the hand of none other than Guillermo Del Toro taking in Alice In Wonderland, Futurama and Pan's Labyrinth. It's just a shame we didn't get an entire episode directed by the master.

A Dr Seuss parody was always going to be ripe for adaptation with a horror slant - his work was always super weird and just on this side of nightmarish. Thanks to The Simpsons - and Homer's murderous Fat In The Hat (cheap shot) - it goes fully over the line, as the Fat goes full pied piper of death. Talking of cheat shots there's a gag at Mike Myers' expense too, inevitably.

The Dead And Shoulders segment is less imaginative, with Bart's head grafted onto Lisa's body and him plotting a way to get rid of her to allow him full control. It's simple but pretty effective though.

And finally, Freaks No Geeks is a well-conceived homage to Freaks, but it compromises somewhat on the laughs. Still more worthwhile than the non-horror movie parodies though.
