The Simpsons: Every Treehouse Of Horror Ranked Worst To Best
6. VIII. The Homega Man; Fly Vs Fly; Easy-Bake Coven
It's easy to be romantic about older Simspons episodes, but with Treehouse Of Horrors ones, it's generally the case that the very earliest ones are the best. They came before the dilution of the format to include non-horror and there's a much more connected spirit to the idea of non-chronological event episodes.
In The Homega Man, Homer goes full Last Man On Earth after a nuclear blast only to discover that some Springfielders survived (including his family thanks to the lead paint layers on their home). It's a nice detachment episode and a look into Homer's mischievous mind.
The second is a riff on The Fly and is easily one of the most narratively assured segments in the entire series (though two happy endings in one is a bit much).
And the third mixes the Salem witch trials with a mangled history of Trick Or Treating, with Marge and her sisters transformed into witches (the best stories have a grain of truth). It's a little twee at the end, but the revelation that they'd already eaten a load of kids before they changed to candy was a devilishly funny little full-stop.
