Appearing in the very first episode of the show to ever air on our screens (the legendary Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire), Principal Seymour Skinner has been a constant staple of its 33 seasons.
As conceived by Matt Groening as a reimagining of “all the principals of [his] youth, rolled into one bland lump”, Skinner was as reliable a part of the Springfield furniture as any of The Simpsons family. So much so in fact that with the much hated and controversial episode “The Principal and the Pauper” the writers came under much criticism for tinkering with the backstory of one of our most beloved characters and it’s since been ignored by most fans as not a real thing.
Throughout the saga of The Simpsons we see Principal Skinner struggle to organise his school among poor and limited resources, bitter teachers and jaded students. A bit of a disciplinarian, Skinner’s heart was always in the right place and he’ll forever be one of the most recognisable characters in the show.
