The Umbrella Academy: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best

6. Luther

Despite the fact that he's literally a man's head on the body of a gorilla (though not quite as strangely designed as he is in the comics), Luther isn't nearly as interesting a character as you'd probably hope. Like Allison, he lacks an edge for the most part and he very much suffers from Cyclops Syndrome (to continue the X-Men analogies), in that he's heroic and obviously hugely-impressive, but put him next to a darker, more edgy alternative (in this case Klaus, Diego and Number 5) and he is immediately inferior.

Luther is the golden boy and ironically he gets a hell of a lot more intriguing when it turns out that he has been living a lie for the past four years on the moon. When he then goes off the rails, we get the best version of Luther and it's just a shame it takes so long to get there. Perhaps that's because he's hampered a little too much by the romantic subplot with Allison, which isn't particularly interesting either.

There's nothing at all wrong with Tom Hopper's performance, he just lacks some of the pizzazz his brothers have.
