The Umbrella Academy: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best
5. Pogo
The Umbrella Academy's monkey butler (sort of) and long-term companion and best friend of Sir Reginald Hargreeves is something of an enigma, in that we aren't told anything about his origin but the fact that he exists being purely incidental is part of his appeal. This is a world where there's a talking, intelligent chimpanzee and a man can have a gorilla body and time travelling assassins are just a thing. Deal with it or move on.
Pogo is no Igor-type either, he's an erudite, loquacious character weighed down by the sins of his master but duty-bound to protect his legacy even when it threatens him. He is realised with some brilliant effects for the most part and mo-cap performances underneath the gloss by Ken Hall (who also plays Commission worker Herb) and vocal artist Adam Godley (best recognised as the Headmaster from Love Actually). There is more life and more humanity in him than there is in Allison, Leonard or Vanya, which is both impressive and disappointing.
