The Umbrella Academy: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best

15. Leonard

Umbrella Academy Leonard

Leonard is probably the most frustrating part of the entire show. Introduced to the show rather than adapted from the comics, he plays the role that the nefarious Orchestra play in the source material in leading Vanya to darkness. As such, he's a pivotal character to the plot, but he's just not all that great.

There are some interesting ideas in there - like his Buddy from The Incredibles obsession with being an Umbrella Academy kid and the murder of his father - but he's not particularly well written beyond being a narrative device designed to lead another character somewhere. Sure, preserving his secrets are pretty important for the way the show deals with the twist, but it would have been nice to have some more substance.

As it is, it's pretty much impossible to see why Vanya would have even given him a second look, even with her past issues with isolation and withheld affection well-established. The grip just isn't there.
