The Umbrella Academy: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best
9. Cha-Cha
Mary J Blige's casting as time travelling assassin Cha-Cha is an interesting one in that it's both slightly distracting (something the show acknowledges by playing one of her own songs under a scene she's in) and completely brilliant.
She plays the disgruntled but committed killer well, establishing easy chemistry with Hazel and offering a real threat in fights with the Academy thanks to some great choreography. She's only not really capable of competing with Hazel because she lacks any kind of relatable depth. There's a flash that she feels some sort of affection for her partner at one point but it's fleeting and beyond that she's mostly the voice of the Commission working against Hazel's increasing desire for free-will.
Still, her and Hazel's interactions are some of the most rewarding in the show and if there was a possibility of a spin-off, you know you'd watch it.
