The Umbrella Academy: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best

8. Sir Reginald Hargreeves

the Umbrella Academy Colm Fiore
Netflix

The revelation of what Sir Reginald actually is at the very end of the show's run is a little disappointing, in that it really isn't given enough focus, but he's still an intriguing character whose legacy hangs over the entire story.

He's effectively this show's answer to Professor X, except instead of him outwardly caring deeply for his students as individuals, he's more invested in them as deterrents to a coming apocalypse that he somehow knows is coming. He is eventually shown to have a paternal side, but he's an interesting character more because of his (literal) alienness and the slightly off way he always interacts with the children.

He's also one of the most morally complex characters - almost certainly on the Dumbledore Spectrum - whose behaviour balances what is right with what is good and that's always an interesting undercurrent.
