The Umbrella Academy Season 2: 10 Things That Must Happen
6. More On Reginald
Reginald Hargreeves was clearly not father of the year material, being a man who clearly went to the same school of teaching and discipline as JK Simmons’ character in Whiplash. While he never struck his children, he did lock one of them in a soundproof basement and have another use her powers to convince said child she was boring and ordinary, so let’s just say neither of them are all that great.
For all it was a very cruel thing to do to Vanya, robbing her of her extraordinary powers and keeping her drugged up to ensure she never realised their potential, he at least had a reason to. He knew Vanya was so powerful that she could one day tear the world asunder if unleashed.
However, while he taught his children never to quit, he does give up on Vanya relatively quickly. It seems strange, given his ultimate quest, that he would set Vanya aside.
He was nothing if not mysterious though; right down to his carefully co-ordinated suicide. He appears to Klaus but takes too long to explain why before Klaus is dragged back to the land of the living; maybe Season 2 will see him complete this speech.
