The Umbrella Academy Season 2: 10 Things That Must Happen
2. Klaus In Vietnam
Klaus serving in Vietnam was largely brushed over, with more focus given to his relationship with Dave than to his actual time in the military. More on Dave and how losing him affected Klaus is pretty much a given, but the darker, more action-filled parts of his experience needs to be explored too.
Klaus doesn’t exactly take things seriously. Even when the apocalypse is about to happen, he’s off buying a hot dog instead of guarding the door. Plus, he’s only put on the door in the first place because they don’t trust him with anything more important.
He doesn’t seem like the type to cope well with the strict discipline demanded by military life. In a war as hectic as Vietnam, Klaus might have finally had to grow up, especially with the love of his life by his side.
Hopefully, this will go hand in hand with understanding more of his relationship with Dave too. Klaus seems to have led a nomadic life, both literally and spiritually. For Dave to have had such a profound effect on him, they must have formed a deep bond; one that was heartbreakingly cut short.
