2. Sir Tom Jones
Deserving of a solo mention is Sir Tom Jones, seller of over 100 million records and singer in a whole array of genres. All three of the other coaches seem designed to appeal to the all-important youth demographic, and they are all hugely successful and popular in their own right, but their tender years cant compare with Tom Jones wealth of experience that he clearly knows how to depart successfully, having won the first series with Leanne Mitchell. At 72 years old, most men would be taking time out to relax by now, but Tom hasnt stopped and has proven himself up for experimenting with changing times and new TV formats. Often stoically and subtly smiling at things going on around him, he seems to have the most patience of all the coaches to sit through a 90 second performance without fidgeting or requiring validation from the others, and he is the expert at turning round at the last possible second. Happily, this doesnt seem to be a technique to make for good television, but rather to allow him to check all facets of their vocal performance before making a decision. Even in less of a performance setting, Jones is still a pleasure to watch after all this time.
