When Dawn was introduced in the first half of the fifth season, she brought with her a lot of mystery. Slap happy and frequently impossible to get a read on, the law enforcement official who put "the weak" into a form of indentured servitude stood in stark contrast to the recently deceased Hunters. Throughout her few appearances, her and her group's history at Grady Memorial was doled out almost exclusively through dialogue, letting attentive viewers put the pieces together. Obsessive and desperate to maintain her power in the face of those who would dissent, Dawn attempted to manipulate Beth to be on "her side" should anything go wrong. In the end, Dawn's desire to assert her strength during the trade-off of her people for Beth and Carol and her demand that Noah be handed over would lead to Beth stabbing her, Dawn instinctively shooting her and Daryl ending Dawn's life in return. Her time on the show may have been brief, but her final action served to rob the group of much-needed hope and will undoubtedly continue to have a lasting effect on characters like Maggie and Daryl.
