Like Randall's group, Joe and the Marauders - or "Claimers" - served as a brutal reminder of what people can be capable of when given free reign in a world without rules. After deciding to hunt down Rick for murdering one of their own during his escape from the house they had invaded and ensnaring the listless Daryl in their group along the way, the Marauders finally caught up with Rick, Michonne and Carl in the season 4 finale, getting the drop on the trio and holding them at their mercy. With Daryl getting beaten to death in front of him for intervening, his son on the verge of getting raped and with Joe whispering promises of what he'd do to Michonne in his ear, cackling the whole time, Rick finally snapped, biting out Joe's jugular and distracting the rest of the Marauders long enough for his friends to take advantage. The entire sequence was at once captivating and distressing, standing out as one of the series' tensest moments. The Marauders may not have been fleshed out as individuals, but their existence and actions were a memorable and disturbing part of the show.
