The Walking Dead: 10 Best Episodes
4. No Way Out (S6 E9)
The sixth run of the show returned from its mid-season break in style, with an episode which combined conclusion, exposition and some barnstorming rocket-launcher action.
This was the last time that the walkers were portrayed as a serious threat, which was a nice throwback to the earlier seasons which were not as heavily burdened with human conflict.
A huge herd invaded Alexandria and helped spare us of the annoying Anderson family, although Ron did take inadvertently take Carl’s eye out on his way down. Carl losing his eye is an iconic moment from the comic book series, and the visuals on screen were awesome.
Sequences such as the walker invasion, with such a large cast of main character and extras, can be very clumsy but director Greg Nicotero delivered the chaos outstanding well.
Alexandrian originals and Rick’s group united to fight the walkers, who are eventually extinguished when Daryl fires a rocket launcher onto some burning fuel to save the day.
Daryl had earlier used the same heavy machinery to save himself, Sasha and Abraham from a sticky situation with The Saviours, which was a wonderfully tense scene. It was the first time we had met any of Negan’s henchman and sowed the seeds for the drama to come.
