4. Gareth & The Termites
Half of the series fourth season was spent building up the idea of a safe haven for our survivors. The gang had been split up by the fall of the prison, and when hope seemed lost, almost everyone came across a sign for Terminus, revealing itself as a sanctuary for all. It took the groups half the season to complete the journey, but upon their arrival, Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Carl found out quickly that the community wasnt quite as advertised. This led to one of the most intense season premieres in television history, with the front man of the group, Gareth, watching on as captives had their heads beaten in, and their throats slit, to keep the Terminus food supply in check. But the gangs escape wasnt going to hinder Gareths plans. They tracked them down to Gabriels church, and in one of the series most eye-opening scenes, revealed that they had cut off and begun to cook and eat Bobs leg while he was still alive. As frightening as they were, Gareth and the Termites fizzled out quickly, begging for mercy before being viciously slaughtered. Even though they didnt kill anyone from the group, the scary thing about the Termites is that they started off as a good group of people. Flashbacks showed that a group of marauders infiltrated their sanctuary to rape and kill their group, turning them into monsters just the same. It just went to show the depths that the dystopian society of The Walking Dead can drop someone to.
