Daryl Dixon may have started out a racist redneck but, over the course of The Walking Dead’s eight seasons, he’s become not only a fan favourite (especially amongst the show’s female demographic) but Rick Grimes’ right-hand man.

As a character created specifically for the show, Daryl offers The Walking Dead’s writers a certain level of freedom that other characters tied to comic canon don’t which is a pretty good reason to keep him around as long as possible even if Daryl has been stuck in a bit of a rut lately.

But more importantly, Daryl is a huge favourite in The Walking Dead fandom and a massive cash cow for AMC. Considering the potential and probable fan backlash of killing off Daryl – remember this is a section of the fandom whose rallying cry is ‘If Daryl dies we riot’ – and that fact he’s so valuable to The Walking Dead brand, we can’t see him being offed before the show is through.
