In The Walking Dead TV series, Carol Peletier is one of only two characters, the other being Daryl Dixon, to appear as a regular in every season, growing from meek housewife to hardened apocalypse survivor. The comic book version of Carol is very, very, different.

While she seems normal enough at first, Carol is described by creator Robert Kirkman as a weak personality, latching on to stronger characters mostly to avoid being alone. The harsh world of the Zombie Apocalypse, and the collapse of her romantic relationship with Tyreese, result in a slow but noticeable deterioration of Carol's sanity.

The final straw comes during the Prison arc, when Rick's wife Lori rejects Carol's offer to join them in a polygamous marriage. While everyone else is occupied with a game of basketball, Carol approaches a Walker another survivor had kept for scientific purposes, and allows it to bite her on the neck. By the time the rest of the group realises what is going on, it is too late to help her. Carol bleeds to death, turns, and is put down by Andrea.
