5. Glenn's Fake Death
Season 6 was all about fakeout deaths (which you'll learn as we get to the back half of the list), but the lesser of two evils came when beloved character Glenn Rhee and, well, not-so-beloved character Nicholas found themselves atop a dumpster surrounded by walkers.
Nicholas decided to take his own life before the walkers could take if from him, but as he shot himself, his body collapsed into Glenn and the pair of them rolled off the dumpster into the pit of walkers. The subsequent shot remained on Glenn's bloody face as he writhed in horror and it was intentionally designed to make it look like he was being torn apart.
Following that, viewers were expected to wait weeks with no answers as the show continued its infuriating habit of completely dropping narratives and picking them up later in the season. And the waiting made the whole thing so stale that most fans had already deduced that he'd hidden underneath the bunker while the walkers made work of Nicholas' body.
An unnecessary red herring that is now even more infuriating in hindsight given what came later in the season.
