A badass in the apocalypse may occasionally struggle to make new friends, and never is that more evident than during Rick Grimes’ first visit to the Hilltop community.
A tussle with an attempted assassin, dispatched by Negan and the Saviours, during Rick's visit ends when he jabs his knife into the throat of the attacker. The deep neck wound drenches Rick in blood, much to the disgust of the Hilltop onlookers. Rick gets to his feet, casually glances at the gathering crowd’s stunned faces and nonchalantly asks “What?”
His cold unemotional reaction to taking a life may have seemed callous. But part of being a badass is maintaining an intimidating posture, and there's not many things more intimidating than being completely unfazed by a literal blood bath.
