9. The Herd

You can, however, expect new threats to call into question the €œSafe-Zone€ part of Alexandria's title. Already it's been hinted that the huge concrete walls that surround the settlement aren't quite up to snuff, with Abraham leading an effort to fortify them. Walkers can still get in, though, with Rick proving his importance to a sceptical population by taking care of a single intruder on his own. But single intruders are one thing, and a full-on zombie assault is quite another. The walkers have been becoming much less of a credible threat on the show, with the core group of survivors so adept at zombie-killing that even a large group on the horizon doesn't constitute much more than a brisk stroll to keep ahead of them. When you're pinned into a single location and are forced to fight off hundreds of the suckers, though, that's when they're dangerous. The show could well be luring the characters €“ and audience €“ into a false sense of security. Because the story arc in the comics that immediately follows the one that season five completed is all about The Herd, a huge group of walkers that descend on the walls of Alexandria and force the survivors inside to be pro-active in their zombie slaying. An activity which isn't without its share of casualties. This is The Walking Dead, after all...
