5. The Saviours, The Whisperers, And More Survivors
Why should you be so afraid of Negan? Because he leads The Saviours, and The Saviours are utterly terrifying. A band of survivors who hole up in an abandoned factory decorated with dismembered walkers that act as both a warning of their fighting prowess and an actual defence system (since the walkers, though on pikes, can still attack up close), they run a protection racket in the post-apocalypse to make the Goodfellas crew proud. Under Negan's leadership they do genuinely keep things safe for the surrounding communities, but do so with impunity, meaning they take all the resources they like from the outposts that they patrol...and take plenty of lives, too. It's a bit like the grasshopper/ant set up in A Bug's Life, and Rick is the leader of the Seven Samurai who come and...this is getting confusing. The Whisperers are a later, equally scary group of violent survivors who turn up a little later, wearing the skin of walkers to disguise themselves and also to look bloody terrifying. What they want is yet to be discovered, but they've enjoyed messing with the other survivors by spreading rumours of talking dead. Expect them and The Saviours to become major forces in later seasons.
