3. Chopping Off Jesse's Arm In Front Of Her Son

A good chunk of the Rick moments on this list come from the early days of Alexandria, and this is no exception. After acclimatising to something resembling civilization, the elder Grimes actually found himself with something of a new makeshift family, having shacked up with Jesse and her children.

That relationship came to a brutal end in No Way Out, with an entire zombie horde descending onto Alexandria. Slowly making their way through the zombie traffic (thanks to the tried-and-tested guts method), their cover is blown by one of Jesse's boys. After watching him become zombie chow, she's bitten as well, but there's an even bigger problem: she's holding onto Carl's arm.

Unable to free himself, Rick whips out his axe and forcibly removes Jesse's arm to allow his son to escape. It's such a violent, matter-of-fact thing to do to the woman he was romantically linked to, and it results in Jesse's remaining son shooting Carl's eye out.

Granted, this one was probably a necessity, but it's still shocking.
