One of the fantastic aspects of Killer Within is that it the events came out of absolutely nowhere, and credit to The Walking Dead producers for keeping the audience on their toes. With the fourth episode of a season, you're expecting character development and the story to move along at a steady pace, with the huge cliffhangers and most intense scenes held back for the mid-season or finale, but this time Lori Grimes met her distressing end when nobody saw it coming. The early days of prison life were rocky and after an infiltration of walkers, Lori finds herself hiding out with Maggie and Carl in a boiler room. After going into labour, she gives Carl a truly devastating, yet beautiful, speech before the frantic scene concludes with Maggie performing a rudimentary C-section on Lori, who doesn't survive the blood loss. The baby is safe, but Carl is the one to shoot Lori to prevent her coming back to life. Rick simultaneously goes through one of the worst and best moments of his life when Maggie emerges with his newborn child and news of Lori, with Andrew Lincoln putting on an absolute masterclass of sheer despair.
