It was the episode that started it all, the pilot had fans gripped from the second Rick woke from his coma into a broken world, crumbled society, completely alone. He must start from step one, as a rookie, desperately trying to transfer his police officer skills to his new situation. Lincoln holds the first episode together magnificently, and some of the choices that survivors must make are highlighted as early as this first episode, with Morgan faced with the task of killing his walking dead wife, thought he can't bring himself to pulling the trigger. The episode introduces Lori and the camp, but the episode belongs to Rick. He's in the dark just as much as the audience, with his explorations and observations on the world painting a picture for the viewers too. The scene was set perfectly, the world and situation was teased enough to grasp the concept, and the show had so much potential, it's only now looking back that fans can appreciate how for they've all come.
