The Walking Dead: 15 Best Episodes

15. Seed - S3 E1

This episode picks up months later from the aftermath of the Season 2 finale, and has strong hints of new beginnings for the group, with Lori almost due to give birth and a federal prison in sight, ready for the group to start afresh. Emotional barriers had emerged between Rick and Lori after the Shane situation, but that unresolved conflict would have to rumble under the surface as the group pulled off the rare scenario of breaking into a prison to seek refuge in the cell blocks. Hershel's fatherly influence grew along with his popularity, adding to the trauma when he was bitten by a walker, though as it was previously mentioned, The Walking Dead is about quick-thinking and choices. Rick amputated the leg in a brutal scene, but the initial agony was rewarded with Hershel surviving, while inmates of the prison remain sealed in the cafeteria. It was an intriguing start to the season that provided the group with real hope and the potential of a fortress, though at a cost.
