The Walking Dead: 6 Things "Try" Got Right (And 4 It Didn't)

3. Who Cares About Pete

Speaking of which, does anybody really care about the whole Pete business? That ultimate escalation seemed to be more about showing off Rick's decaying mental state than the severity of the spousal abuse situation, but apart from that, the show has been going to great pains to suggest that the ongoing awfulness of Jessie's husband is the most important thing right now. Which isn't to suggest that it's something that should be ignored, swept under the rug or treated without the level of seriousness and gravitas such a situation deserves, in real life or in fiction. It just seems like an odd angle to take, given the fact that ZOMBIES HAVE INHERETED THE EARTH AND KEEP EATING EVERYONE AND SOCIETY HAS COLLAPSED. Maybe this isn't priority number one. Carol making it out to be makes sense, given her own difficult past, but Rick also taking it on board (partly cos he's sweet on Jessie) and, subsequently, the authorial €œvoice€ of the show making this the main plot just doesn't work. They've not done enough to make the audience care.
