The Walking Dead: 8 Things "Remember" Got Right (And 2 It Didn't)

3. The Confessionals

Besides perhaps hinting at some hidden satirical depths they hadn't previously boasted, the scenes with the camera provided another new angle for The Walking Dead to explore its principal cast. The trope is nicked pretty much wholesale from reality television, where stars will speak directly to the camera about their perspective on events in whatever competitive kitchen or gigolo house they're competing/living/working in. It's kind of a cheap ploy in those contexts, because it means any potential for subtext that might be missed by the viewer in the miasma of cynical reality show editing is shirked in favour of people stating aloud what they are thinking, feeling etc, and it's not any less cheap in its usage here. You could also argue bringing a technique used mainly in Real Housewives shows is a little out of place in The Walking Dead, and yet €œRemember€ introduces it so smoothly and it actually does really well as a check-in not only on how the characters are doing but on how they think they are doing, and what they make of their lives right now. Except for Daryl.
