The Walking Dead: Every Season 10 Episode (So Far) - Ranked Worst To Best
4. The World Before
Like Lines We Cross, the midseason finale fell pretty short of the bar set by finales past. Compared to game-changing episodes like season two's Pretty Much Dead Already, which was defined by Sophia's jaw-dropping emergence from the barn, season four's Too Far Gone, which saw the fall of the prison, or season nine's Evolution, which featured the Whisperer reveal, The World Before felt like a bridge episode.
That's not to say that a lot didn't happen, though. We learned how Dante infiltrated Alexandria, Rosita was given some great material, Virgil entered the show and took Michonne with him on a journey that will lead to her announced exit from the series, Daryl finally told Carol to cut it out with her self-destruction, and Father Gabriel - of all people - snapped and killed Dante.
However, as a season finale, we've been conditioned to expect more, and The World Before didn't feel like a satisfying conclusion to the midseason. Alpha was barely in the episode, characters like Negan, Lydia, and Beta were nowhere to be found, and even the big cliffhanger - a number of characters trapped in a cave full of walkers - feels tame compared to events from the show's legacy, making the whole thing feel like an episode with very little payoff and a whole lot of setup for a far more interesting midseason premiere in 2020.
