The Walking Dead: Every Season 3 Episode Ranked Worst To Best

7. Welcome To The Tombs

The Walking Dead
AMC

The season three finale, Welcome to the Tombs is an episode that fans either love or loathe. Whilst it has its flaws, though, its strengths make it an undisputable gem with countless standout moments that keep it from falling flat.

The episode features The Governor and his forces racing to the prison to kill Rick and the gang, a confrontation which never comes because Glenn and Maggie scare off the soldiers with an elaborate trap. Meanwhile, Rick, Daryl and Michonne race to Woodbury to save Andrea, but find they're too late.

For some, the finale is a wasted opportunity; there's no big battle, no stand-off between any of the remaining characters, and limited action.

But between Andrea's sacrifice and The Governor's insanity leading him to massacre his own people, it's still a great episode that ends on a perfectly ambiguous note and gives a rare glimpse into a hopeful future. It wasn't what people wanted, but it still worked beautifully.
