The Walking Dead Season 11 Review - 3 Downs & 5 Ups From "A New Deal"
6. Down - Wrestling In A Zombie Post-Apocalypse
Since the first group of survivors arrived in the Commonwealth, they and the audience were treated to a world reminiscent of the days before society fell due to the plague of the dead rising. From bakeries, to functional hospitals, to funfairs, the community visually stands out from the likes of the Kingdom and the prison.
However, the wrestling match that marks the celebration of Founders Day completely stood out like a sore thumb in this episode.
With a charismatic ring announcer, three wrestlers in colourful outfits and rock music playing in the background, this just seemed a bit too ridiculous to fit within the dark and grim world of The Walking Dead. Although wrestling fans might get a kick from this particular scene, those who love the series may be a bit bewildered by seeing the moment included.
While it does eventually become the stage for Sebastian's downfall as he unknowingly becomes revealed to all the people watching on, the serious tone of the season gets broken and comes to a screeching halt with this match between the combatants. They may be able to wow the crowd of the Commonwealth and the young Judith, but much like Daryl, some viewers might be left scowling.
